No schedule = relaxation

It's so nice to be warm! After a solid 12 hours of transit, including no less than 1 airplane flight, 1 bus ride, one ferry crossing and one rental car drive, we finally find ourselves 35 degrees warmer, surrounded by palm trees and drinking the best rum. We have arrived on Marie-Galante, the largest of Guadeloupe's satellite islands, and a stark change of pace to anyone's daily life. Here, things move slow. People work less, and relax more. Store hours are few, and erratic at that. Here, you take that afternoon siesta, and you do it with gusto, basking in the sun, Ti'punch in hand, likely on a beach or lounging in a hammock. Marie-Galante forces you to slow down and enjoy each and every moment of the day, so that's what we plan to do. No schedule, nothing to do except what we feel like doing. Tomorrow, we might head down the hill into town, and have coffee and heavy molasses "siwo" cake. Or we might relax in our breakfast gazebo with the treats left for us by our generous Airbnb host - that's right, we have a breakfast gazebo, overlooking the ocean. Regardless, it will be a wonderful day, and we will enjoy every minute.

(I have to give a little shout-out to our Airbnb for being SO AWESOME. It is gorgeous here, with open-air cooking and dining area, breakfast nook, quiet surroundings - but what makes it even better is the attention to detail. We arrived in the evening, so our host stocked our fridge with not only the classic Ti'punch fixing as a sort of welcome cocktail, but also stuff to make spaghetti for supper AND toast, jam, butter and coffee for tomorrow's breakfast! So unexpected, but very much appreciated.)
